About this category

BMW and Mini diagnostic tools

For BMW and Mini, iCarsoft has the BMM range. The BMM V2.0 registers the battery, which is what a modern BMW needs most. The BMM V1.0 is a good buy for a classic BMW or for reading fault codes.

Why the battery rules on a BMW

Modern BMWs manage charging according to the age and type of battery. If you fit a new battery and don't register it, the car keeps treating it like the old one: it charges it wrongly, the battery wears out sooner and random warnings appear. That is why battery registration is the most used function on this make, and the BMM V2.0 does it.

Classic BMWs: the 20-pin socket

BMWs built before 2001 (E30, E34, E36, E38, E39 and early E46, Z3 or X5) have a round 20-pin socket in the engine bay. Both BMM tools work on them with the iCarsoft 20-pin adapter, sold separately. For a car of that age, the BMM V1.0 is usually enough, as there is no battery to register and no electronic parking brake.

Coding on BMW

No BMM tool does coding. If you want to code a control unit or unlock features, look at the CR Max models. The CR Max P also comes with the F-Chassis cable and DoIP for F and G-series BMWs.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I change my BMW's battery and don't register it?

The car keeps charging it as if it were the old one. That shortens its life and can trigger electrical warnings. The BMM V2.0 does the registration.

I have an E36. Which BMM should I buy?

The BMM V1.0 with the 20-pin adapter, sold separately. On a car of that age you don't need the V2.0 functions.

Do they work on a Mini?

Yes, both cover BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce.
