A single-brand tool only works with one manufacturer or group, but it goes as deep into them as a multi-brand scanner. If all your cars are the same make, it's the cheapest way to get full diagnostics.
The letters tell you the make (VAWS for the Volkswagen Group, BMM for BMW, MB for Mercedes, LR for Land Rover and so on) and the number tells you the generation. The gap between generations is big.

Two V2.0 tools are exceptions and do less: the KR V2.0 for Hyundai and Kia, which is a code reader, and the FA V2.0 for Fiat. We explain this on each make's page. The full comparison is in V1.0 vs V2.0.

With two cars of different makes, two V2.0 tools cost €389.90, while the CR Pro does the same 9 functions on 58 makes for €279.95. And if you want to activate components or code modules, no single-brand tool can: that is what the multi-brand range is for.
No. They do the same 9 service functions. The advantage of the V2.0 is the price, if all your cars are that make.
The make or group: VAWS is Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and Skoda; BMM, BMW and Mini; MB, Mercedes; FR, French and Italian makes; JP, Japanese and Korean makes; US, American makes.
Only for generic engine OBD2 functions. To get into the ABS or airbag or run service functions, you need the tool for that make or a multi-brand scanner.
