Three questions that decide the model
How many makes? If every car at home is the same make, a V2.0 single-brand tool does for €194.95 what the CR Pro does on that manufacturer. With two different makes, a multi-brand scanner already works out cheaper.
Read faults or do servicing? Any model will tell you why a warning light came on. To change pads on an electronic parking brake, regenerate the DPF or register a battery, you need service functions, and that is where the V1.0 tools fall short.
Do you need to activate components? A bi-directional scan tool sends commands to the control unit, for example switching on the fuel pump or a fan, so you can check whether it responds. The CR Pro+, the CR Max models and the CR Ultra models have it.
Updates and warranty
The CR Pro, CR Pro+ and CR Max multi-brand tools, the HD V4.0, the TPMS V800 and most single-brand tools get free lifetime updates. The CR Ultra models and the MT PRO include three years, after which renewal is optional. Some older-generation single-brand tools, such as the RT V1.0 or the KR V2.0, include the first year. Every tool comes with a 3-year warranty and is dispatched within 24 hours.
