HD V4.0 description
The iCarsoft HD V4.0 is a diagnostic tool for trucks, buses and 24 V heavy vehicles, with 37 vehicle and engine makes installed as standard. It has a 5" touchscreen, eight service functions and OBD-6, OBD-9 and CAT-9 adapters in the box. It costs €449.95 and updates free over Wi-Fi.
The makes a commercial vehicle workshop sees
The Europeans: DAF, MAN, Scania, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, IVECO and Renault. The Americans: Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Mack and International. The Japanese: Fuso, Hino, Isuzu and UD. Plus the systems many of them use: Cummins, Caterpillar and Detroit engines, Allison and Eaton gearboxes, and Bosch, WABCO and HALDEX brakes.
If one is missing, there are 34 paid packages you can activate on the tool itself, such as Volkswagen commercial vehicles, Setra, Irisbus, JCB, John Deere, New Holland and Volvo CE.
Eight functions for everyday work
DPF regeneration and SCR system reset, the two that come up most in fleet work. Injector coding, clutch adjustment, oil and brake pad resets, speed limiter reset and a cylinder cut-out test to find the one that's down on power. It speaks SAE J1939 and J1708, J1850, ISO 9141, ISO 14230, CAN and CAN-FD. The three adapters cover the non-standard sockets on many trucks, buses and Caterpillar machinery.
What about vans?
On 12 V vehicles it reads the engine module over OBD: codes, freeze frame, O2 sensors, EVAP and monitors. For full diagnostics on cars or vans you need a car tool from the multi-brand range.
HD V4.0 or a workshop tablet?
The CR Ultra can handle heavy vehicles if you add the HD2000 package, but it's a €1,489.95 car tablet. If your work is mainly trucks, the HD V4.0 covers heavy vehicles as standard for a good deal less. Compared with the old HD V3.0, with buttons and a 2.8" screen, the V4.0 adds a touchscreen, Wi-Fi, the CAT-9 connector and the eight functions.
Android 8.1, 2 GB of RAM, 64 GB, a 3150 mAh battery (about 3 hours) and 28 languages, English included.
