VOL V1.0 description
The iCarsoft VOL V1.0 is the straightforward tool for Volvo and Saab, covering petrol models from 2001 and diesels from 2004. It reads every reachable control unit, clears the service reminder and recalibrates the steering angle. It costs €134.95.
What it does on your car
It diagnoses the engine, transmission, ABS, airbag and other make-specific modules, which is exactly where a generic OBD2 reader can't reach. It shows live data and freeze frame, so you know the conditions when the fault appeared. It runs all 10 OBD2 modes, including I/M readiness, O2 sensors, EVAP and pending codes, so you can check emissions before the MOT or NCT.
For servicing it does two things: it resets the service reminder after an oil change and calibrates the steering angle sensor when the wheel sits off-centre after an alignment.
Before you plug it in
Switch off the car's energy-saving mode and update the tool to the latest version. That's iCarsoft's advice for all its Volvo tools, and it avoids most connection problems. It isn't intended for hybrids.
Cars compatible with the VOL V1.0
Petrol from 2001 and OBD2 diesels from 2004: a 2003 diesel isn't covered. It reads the VIN by itself and speaks CAN-FD, K-Line, KWP2000 and CAN. 2.8" screen with buttons, six languages and free updates over USB, no Wi-Fi needed.
VOL V1.0 or VOL V2.0
The VOL V2.0 covers the same cars with a 4" screen and seven extra functions: electronic parking brake, battery, DPF, injectors, ABS bleeding, throttle and TPMS. On a diesel Volvo with an electronic brake, those are what save you a garage visit at every pad change. To find out what's wrong and clear the warning, the V1.0 is all you need.
