VOL V2.0 description
The iCarsoft VOL V2.0 is iCarsoft's diagnostic tool for Volvo and Saab. It reads every system and has 9 service functions on petrol models from 2001 and OBD2 diesels from 2004. It costs €194.95.
The dates matter
This is the first thing to check. On petrol, coverage starts in 2001. On diesel, it starts in 2004, when Volvo diesels moved to full OBD2. A 2003 V70 D5, for example, isn't covered. If your car sits right on that line, ask us first.
What it does on a Volvo
It reads and clears faults on the engine, transmission, ABS, airbag, climate control, body and other control units, with live parameters while the engine is running. For servicing: service reminder reset, electronic parking brake for rear pad changes, particulate filter regeneration, battery registration, steering angle, throttle, injectors, ABS bleeding and TPMS. For the pads, there's a step-by-step in how to open the electronic parking brake.
If it won't connect first time
Volvos have an energy-saving mode that cuts communication with the diagnostic socket. iCarsoft recommends switching it off and having the tool updated to the latest version before diagnosing. That's nearly always the cause.
Where the VOL V2.0 falls short
It isn't bi-directional: it doesn't activate components one by one. iCarsoft doesn't give details of plug-in hybrid coverage, so if yours is one, send us the VIN.
VOL V2.0 or VOL V1.0
The VOL V1.0 covers the same years for €60 less and reads the engine, gearbox, ABS and airbag, but only does oil and steering angle. If your Volvo is a diesel or has an electronic parking brake, go for the V2.0. Both are in Volvo diagnostics.
